Hopefully, most of you have watched, listened to or at least heard about TED talks. According to TED.com, "TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader." Because the stated three worlds are areas we as creatives should care dearly about, I thought it would be nice to share the TEDness with everyone.

In the video below, you'll hear from the photo director for National Geographic, David Griffin. He talks about how we all use photos to tell our stories. Enjoy.

TED is such a valuable resource. I watched several while getting ready for our IUSA platform - some from authors, some from clothing designers - there's a creative process no matter what the medium and this is an amazing place to pull inspiration from!

We are inspired by hundreds of things daily. Sometimes we realize it, others may just be subconscious. If you're one of the thousands of photographers at Imaging USA this week, you should DEFINITELY see plenty of inspiration around you. The inspirations could be as obvious as a TV show or as subtle as the design of the floor tiles. The question is, how do we keep track of all these things in order to easily recall them later? Enter the camera phone. Of course the best photos would come from the iPhones, Blackberrys and other smart phones. But regardless of the quality, the vast majority of us have this very accessible tool for capturing these things that inspire us. Think of it as visual note-taking. Doing this will change the way you look at the places, people and objects around you. Keep your eyes peeled for that cool design on your fast food cup. That perfect color scheme. Or maybe you like shape of that tree...you hippie. Compile these daily photos and keep them on your computer. Below are some photos I've taken recently of interesting textures, shapes and design.

Hey, this is a great idea..............why didn't I think of that?? We all have phones so now we just have to remember that when our photographer's eye spots something cool, different or inspiring to snap it! Thanks, I'll be visiting this blog often!

I have caught myself doing documenting neat textures and scenes. Try even twisting your phone a little bit, creating some cool blur effect.

My second favorite iphone app for shooting pics if the ShakeitPhoto app. It's really great for very quick shots that have a nice polaroid look to them.

ShakeitPhoto shoots in a square format so be sure to take the image horizontally and you will know what the top and bottom is. The app will crop in on the left and right. In the settings change it to fast processing and it develops quick. The app was developed by a great designer/photographer Nick campbell. Check out his site at greyscalegorilla.com

Hey Guys!

I love shooting pics on my iPhone. I always have it with me and it's very easy to use with twitter. I want to go over three of my favorite iPhone photography apps. The first one will be the toy camera app called Hipstamatic.

Hipstamatic is the most recent addition to my iPhone arsenal and is the most time consuming. This is not a bad thing  it just means you need to be able to take your time. The apps base price is $1.99 the catch is that you will want to add on different lenses, film and flashes. I have purchased all the additions but since it's been spread out I haven't felt like it was a big deal. Maybe $10 in total. I am still experimenting with different formulas.

The first image uses John S lens with Blanko film.

Agreed! The Hipstamatic is awesome...and a bit time consuming too! But I kinda like that. While I'm switching lenses, film, or flash units, I can think about composition or perspective. It's already made for some of my favorite iPhone shots!!

Yep. The combinations are sweet and allow for a LOT of experimentation across types of each!
