My first impression of iPhone OS4 on the 3Gs
Citizens,I downloaded the new operating system for the iPhone yesterday, OS 4. It became available a couple days ahead of the new iPhone 4. I will be picking up my new iPhone 4 on Thursday. As soon as I have it I will write up a review for you. In the meantime here are my initial thoughts on the new OS running on my current 32gig 3Gs.
The new OS lets apps remain open in the background but are paused instead of being completely closed, this is Apples solution for multi-tasking. This allows apps like Pandora to continue to run in the background while you are in other apps. Certain aspects of the program will remain active.
If you double tap the home button you will see this.
At the bottom of the screen it shows what apps are currently running in the background. If you swipe your finger you can scroll through all the apps.
When you press and hold an icon, all of them will have a red dash; tap this to really quit. I don't know if this will ever be really necessary, but it's good to know how.
Double tap the home button and swipe right to see the iTunes controls.
For those of us that have WAY too many apps. You can now create folders for your apps. If you press and hold an app and drag it onto another app it creates a folder with them in it. It names the folder based on what apps you have in there. I don't know what it will do when all the apps are different. A good solution but I am not certain about the naming part. Also, it will only hold 12 apps.
You have to make sure you have the latest versions of the apps you have bought. Most have updated with OS4 compatibility. I could not get Pandora to stay on while launching other apps and finally realized I had not updated it.
A couple other improvements:
• Screen orientation lock.
• New Mail App: Unified inbox viewing.
• iBooks.
• Custom Backgrounds.
• Bluetooth Keyboard compatibility.
• Bing: You can now choose to search the microsoft search engine.
TOMORROW: iPHONE 4!!!

I'm waiting until I can jailbreak the new OS. I JB my 3gs and I love it!

I think a self portrait contest for my 3Gs would be fun. The iPhone is actually fairly new. Pristine.
