Square: credit card reader for iPhone

Before we left for ImagingUSA, I was looking for a way to accept credit card payments via the iPhone. I got a lot of suggestions but this one seems to be the best bet. https://squareup.com/

I don't know the exact launch date but it has received a LOT of attention lately.

Here is Kevin Rose of Digg.com demonstrating it. It looks pretty straightforward. Anyone else have any hands on experience with this?

That looks very intriguing. I just purchased the CC Terminal app since I already have an authorize.net account. I haven't tried it out on a client yet, but for .99 I couldn't pass it up. When this comes out it will definitely revolutionize the way small businesses work. I checked out the link, but do you know if they have an expected launch date?

I'm curious as to what the monthly fees will be like. I have a great deal right now, I only pay 12.95 a month. Any idea on the charges?

From what it sounds like (the kind of uses he listed off), our charge for the service will be a percentage of the transaction only. I very much like the idea of a payment system that I can utilize a little or a lot and have my cost scale with use.

Not only that, but the system seems secure by utilizing a swipe (vs. a keyed entry) AND includes signature. These things make it much harder for someone to dispute the transaction through their credit card company. Also interesting to note that it seems receipts are archived at squareup.com so that may be a benefit as well!

I read that they are expecting a March release... I can't wait to see it, it sounds too good to be true! ;)

I don't have a small business, but it's so cool I just want to use it. Can't wait for it to come out. Maybe I'll have to come up with some sort of business just so i can get one of those little swipe thingys.

Love, Todd

Kristin thanks for that information. Not too far away now that its February.

Verifone is rolling out a dock-device for the iphone to swipe cards with. It seems a little more sturdy than the square.
