Looking Back for Something New

I'm really excited about my LBOBI posts. I'm the only one that gets to post about whatever I want:) [I've always known they like me the most]
I get to post fun creative things. Everything from recipes, DIY projects, inspiration, and all things creative.

Im a HUGE, MAJOR fan of Chalkboards & even a bigger fan of Chalkboard PAINT!
Oh yeah, it's a paint.

I was first introduced to this new found obsession here at ARP. Allison always has great ideas for backdrops and this was her masterpiece.

Don't get stuck in the rut of fabric being your only option. GET CREATIVE. Tile, flooring, tissue paper, rugs.. you get the idea, right?

Here is an example of ARP using my love, Chalkboard, as backdrop.
In the words of Jeff Rodgers, RAZZLE DAZZLE!

I love our Chalkboard.
It's used in various ways and fits absolutely any age.
I've seen A use it on seniors, babies, families, and singing artists.

Whether it's used for children writing their names, wings like shown, or the messy texture left over after erasing day in and day out, it always looks AWESOME!

So, I took this awesome Chalkboard idea and applied it at home. It can be used so many ways. I took the Chalkboard paint & RAN with it! Literally, I stole it from ARP & ran home with it. Okay, not really but I wanted too.

I applied Chalkboard paint & regular paint to various things I had at home from garage sales.

The first is a pretty awesome tray, if you love grapes.
Then an old frame: Ugly picture, awesome frame.
Then an Octagon shape mirror.... Octagon, really? Who makes those?

I fell absolutely in LOVE with the final results!
I MEAN IN LOVE PEOPLE!
Wanna see? ... okay!

Viola! Did I mention I'm in love with them?

I use the tray to write cute sayings or welcome guests over! The Oval frame I use for menus or reminders, and the Laundry is just for plain cuteness & decoration.

So, moral of this story, don't be afraid to use what you already have lying around at home or in studio to spur another great idea.

Find something you could spruce up or transform to become something NEW. Look around & get creative! Whether it's signage for your dressing room / bathroom or an entire wall!!

Let's "chalk" this up to another BIG idea from lbobi :) {cheesy, I know}

Love,

Very cool! Gonna have to get me some chalk board paint! I have just the wall in my studio that has been screaming, "paint me, paint me." Little kids will absolutely love getting to draw and "customize" their own backgrounds.

Thanks!!

Wow... I had to read this like 2 times and examine the photos before realizing you were talking about paint that becomes a chalk board. I thought you were talking about paint you use on chalkboards. And that you painted grapes with it.. ha!

Oh btw... V-O-I-L-A spells "voila".
V-I-O-L-A spells "viola"... and I don't think you play the viola. :)

I always like to keep my readers on their toes, so naturally I throw in a curve ball like that. Glad to know you were paying attention Evan. Job well done!

ps. Playing the Viola has always been an aspiration of mine

Sometimes Katie plays the viola so loud at work that I have to put her in time out.

what type of surface did you paint on for the studio background? I'm trying to think of a type of board that I could use that would be light enough for me to move in and out of the shooting area. I think this is BRILLIANT!!! My head is swirling with a bazillion (yeah...that's a lot) different ways of using this!

I painted mostly on wood. I did paint on one mirror. It was pretty difficult bc it did not want to stick. It took alot longer to dry and several more coats. Whatever you paint on, sand it pretty well. This helps the paint stick better.

For the studio wall, we painted straight onto our wall. We didn't sand the wall, we just straight applied the paint! I think we did about 2 or 3 coats. Let us know what you paint on and how well it works!!!
